Qld Stamp Duty Hike

Just what can Anna Bligh and Andrew Fraser be thinking of?   The Queensland property market is in the middle of one it’s biggest slumps with property values falling or plummeting in some parts of South East Queensland.  Now they announce in the new budget that the stamp duty concession for owner occupied home buyers is to be removed.

Queensland was the cheapest state in the country for home buyers but now it is back on par with the others.

At the same time the Qld Government announce a $10,000 building grant which will allay some of the stamp duty costs but for first home buyers this grant is available in addition to the $7,000 first home buyers grant – that means first home buyers get $17,000 cash and they are still entitled to a full stamp duty concession on homes up to $500,000
